Dan Neil looks finished at Sunderland as he undergoes medical at Championship club
Dan Neil looks set to depart Sunderland, with the midfielder having a medical at Ipswich Town ahead of a potential loan move.
Football Insider recently revealed that Neil was set to depart the Stadium of Light this window after he was left out of the squad to face West Ham.
The 24-year-old central midfielder has struggled for game time this season despite captaining the Black Cats to promotion in the 2024-25 campaign.
Now, his time at Sunderland looks set to come to an end, with Neil edging closer to a move to Ipswich Town.

The two clubs have agreed on a straight loan until the end of the season.
This is despite Neil being out of contract at the end of the campaign, with the 24-year-old currently set to become a free agent.
So far this campaign, the midfielder has only made four first-team appearances, with three coming in the Premier League.
Can Neil be a success at Ipswich Town?
With Ipswich gunning for an instant return to the Premier League this season, they have been looking to make quality additions this month to boost their promotion hopes.
Anis Mehmeti has already arrived at Portman Road from Bristol City, in a significant coup for Kieran McKenna’s side.
Now, he will be hoping that Neil can have a big impact at the Tractor Boys for the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.
According to Fotmob on 26 January, the midfielder had plenty of solid stats last season in the Championship, as he produced 5.84 recoveries, 0.93 successful dribbles and an 83.9 per cent passing accuracy per game.
| Dan Neil’s Championship stats last season | Per 90 minutes |
| Goals | 0.05 |
| Passing accuracy | 83.9% |
| Chances created | 0.72 |
| Successful dribbles | 0.93 |
| Recoveries | 5.84 |
| Interceptions | 1.07 |
While he has struggled for game time this season, if he can replicate these statistics at Ipswich Town, that, combined with his experience, it should make him an instant success at Portman Road.
Hopefully, Neil can hit the ground running at Ipswich and help guide McKenna’s side to an instant Premier League return over the coming months.
