Dani Olmo sends three-word message after big Man City news
Man City target Dani Olmo has taken to social media to welcome in 2025 after Barcelona’s latest bid to register him for the second half of the season was rejected.
The 26-year-old’s future at the Spanish club is in serious doubt just six months after joining from RB Leipzig for £50million in the summer transfer window.
La Liga agreed to a temporary arrangement until the end of the calendar year due to financial constraints on the struggling club.
They have since rejected Barcelona’s latest bid to register Olmo, alongside Pau Victor, releasing a statement on Tuesday (December 31) that said: “FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with LaLiga’s economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player after 2 January.”
Barcelona are reportedly seeking to use the £83million investment gained from selling VIP boxes at the newly renovated Camp Nou to Middle Eastern investors to help with the process.
It’s understood there is a growing belief at Man City that Kevin de Bruyne will leave the club once his contract ends at the end of the season, and Olmo is seen as the perfect replacement.

The attacking midfielder has impressed since signing for the Catalan club, starting nine of his 15 games across all competitions, scoring six goals, and providing one assist in his 813 minutes of action.
Olmo took to Instagram to celebrate bringing in the new year with his partner, saying: “It’s 2025 time,” accompanying his message with two love heart emojis in Barcelona colours.

City have remarkably fallen out of the Champions League spots having endured their worst run of form since Pep Guardiola took over in 2016, winning two, drawing three, and losing nine of their last 14 games across all competitions.
Guardiola’s side host a struggling West Ham in their first game of 2025, having just beaten Leicester City 2-0 in their previous Premier League fixture.
