‘Daniel Farke asks for Wilfried Gnonto transfer request at Leeds United’

Wilfried Gnonto has a history of pushing for a Leeds United exit and Daniel Farke is now asking for a repeat.

The Leeds manager has an incredible amount of talent at his fingertips this season, especially in the final third, boasting 15 more goals than any other team in the division right now.

Joel Piroe has rediscovered his shooting boots, hitting the back of the net 15 times so far, followed by Dan James, Manor Solomon and Brenden Aaronson as Leeds look to beat Sheffield United back to the Premier League.

Having so many trusted goal-scorers to choose from comes at a price, and apparently, Wilfried Gnonto and Largie Ramazani are the ones paying it at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke continues to snub Wilfried Gnonto at Elland Road

Despite arriving on a £10million deal from Almeria last summer [YEP], Ramazani has started just seven league matches while his opposite winger has been stuck on the bench for the past 13 Championship games.

Of course, Gnonto has come onto the pitch as a late substitute in those 13 games, but having played such an important role earlier in the campaign, supporters are increasingly baffled by Farke’s choices.

Winning promotion back to the Premier League is the main priority for everyone in West Yorkshire this season, but after notching eight goals and two assists last term, it makes little sense to see him dropped.

Leeds United star to push for move away despite club’s Premier League ambitions

While the 21-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since handing in a transfer request in the summer of 2023 amid strong interest from Premier League side Everton [BBC Sport], Farke is risking the same happening again.

He outright refused to play for the club after this action, being forced to apologise to Farke at Thorpe Arch before returning to the squad and building the trust back with angered fans.

Gnonto is one of the more dangerous forwards in the team, if not the most dangerous, and he is nowhere near reaching the prime of his career yet, which only makes his potential even more attractive to other suitors.

There is unlikely to be a shortage of offers if the young winger is to wave the white flag at Elland Road once again, and given his lack of time in the Leeds starting lineup recently, fans would not be very surprised.

Ao Tanaka has already been tipped for a move away from Leeds, and with speculation swirling around Gnonto’s situation, it could get worse for Farke this summer.
