Daniel Farke sack latest: ‘Leeds chairman makes feelings clear’

Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe is set to back Daniel Farke despite growing speculation about his future at the club.

Despite securing promotion back to the Premier League, questions have been raised over Farke’s suitability to manage in the top flight, largely due to his past record.

The German coach holds just a 12 per cent win rate in the Premier League, having suffered two relegations during his time at Norwich City.

However, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Farke is expected to remain at Leeds and that he has the full support of the club’s hierarchy.

Leeds are now preparing to back Farke in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen the squad ahead of their return to the Premier League — support he was not afforded during his previous top-flight stints.

Robinson, who remains closely connected at Elland Road, revealed that chairman Marathe has made his stance on Farke clear and is ready to provide the backing needed to give him a fighting chance in the top tier.

Paraag Marathe will back Daniel Farke amid Leeds exit speculation

Despite names like Jose Mourinho and Steven Gerrard being linked with the Leeds job, it’s looking increasingly likely that Farke will remain in charge as the club returns to the Premier League.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that chairman Marathe has publicly backed Farke in the past and still sees him as a top-level coach.

“The chairman said two years ago that he’s going to back the manager if and when Leeds go up” he told Football Insider.

“Farke’s got a really poor record in the Premier League. He’s got a 12 per cent win rate, but it was with Norwich.

“He wasn’t backed and wasn’t given the players or squad necessary to stay in the Premier League.

“If you look at the chairman’s comments, he said that he genuinely believes the manager can be one of the top coaches in Europe.”

“If the owners are going to give him the money, the squad, and the players needed to stay in the Premier League, then he deserves the opportunity — because he’s the one who got them there.”

With promotion now confirmed, Leeds are set for a busy summer as they gear up for life back in the top flight.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown revealed that Leeds are planning six new signings in the upcoming window.

One priority position is goalkeeper, with Illan Meslier’s future up in the air following his recent spell out of the starting XI.

Brown also told Football Insider that Wolves shot-stopper Sam Johnstone is interested in a move to Leeds after a frustrating season at Molineux – as the club prepares for a wider shake-up of the squad
