Daniel Levy issues Postecoglou statement at Tottenham – ‘I’d like to thank Ange’

Daniel Levy has sent a new message to Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou amid major speculation over his job.

Spurs defied all the odds, and also their own awful form in the Premier League, to beat Ruben Amorim‘s Man United in the final of the Europa League in Bilbao on Wednesday, 21 May.

Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the game, bundling home a sloppy finish just before the half-time break, but it was enough to send the supporters into pandemonium in and away from North London.

Despite lifting silverware, Football Insider understands that Postecoglou’s future is now “50/50” at Tottenham, with the board yet to make a decision on the manager position.

Levy has done little to alleviate any of the pressure on his manager, staying quiet behind the scenes, and his message to the fans before Spurs’ clash with Brighton on Sunday, 25 May, has not helped one bit.

Daniel Levy remains vague over Ange Postecoglou’s future

The Guardian (25 May) shared Levy’s quotes from the club’s official matchday programme, with the owner writing: “We did it. What an unforgettable night it was in Bilbao as we ended our long wait for glory.

“This is a huge moment for the whole club, a historic achievement that sees us lift our first European trophy since 1984. We’ve come so close on a number of occasions and never quite got over the line.

“I have never wavered from the belief that success is just around the corner. I’d like to thank Ange and the players for making this incredible achievement possible, and thanks to all of our amazing staff – there is so much hard work that goes on behind the scenes, and this moment is for everyone to enjoy.”

Also, thanking the fans for their incredible support, and discussing the further ambitions for more silverware after lifting the Europa League, it has offered no hint over the manager’s future.

The owner is clearly thankful for Postecoglou’s work under immense pressure from the supporters, but he failed to completely back the manager, only raising more questions over who could be in charge next season.

Ange Postecoglou excites Tottenham supporters ahead of 2025/26 campaign

Football Insider verdict

While lifting the Europa League title is everything fans have dreamed of over the last few years, it remains to be seen if Postecoglou is the right man to take the Lilywhites forward.

Although Spurs have been plagued by injuries this season, that is no excuse for their horrendous form in the Premier League, currently sitting 17th in the table before the final day of the season.

The Australian has suggested that his third season in North London will be even better than his second, getting fans dreaming once again, and this has trapped Levy in a corner this summer.

It is possible for Spurs to rise to 14th in the Premier League table with a win over Brighton, that is, if other results go their way, but that is still not good enough for a team that has just won the Europa League.

Paul Robinson suggested to Football Insider that Postecoglou could choose to walk away from Tottenham due to abuse from fans this season, but his celebrations this weekend could mean otherwise.
