Levy opens door for sensational Tottenham signing when probed at insider event

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has opened the door to a sensational move for former star Gareth Bale when probed by supporters during a fans forum on Monday night.

Twitter account THFC1976, who was one of the fans invited to the insider event, reported that when asked about the possibility of the club signing the Welsh wing wizard, Levy, who was in attendance alongside Mauricio Pochettino and Hugo Lloris, suggested that a deal was possible.

Instead of ruling it out, he is quoted as saying that the possibility of such a major transfer swoop was more of a “maybe”, with Bale having left the club for Real Madrid in a world record breaking deal back in 2013.

He made a total of 203 appearances for Spurs after joining from Southampton, scoring 56 times and chipping in with 58 appearances, and is now contracted at Real Madrid until 2022.

Football Insider verdict

Rumours of a swoop for Bale have been circling for some time, and with such cryptic answers from the likes of Levy, it is likely to remain that way for some time. What fans can take away from this meeting is that there is seemingly interest in Spurs securing their former man. Whether they can turn that into a reality is another matter entirely. There will be huge finances required to secure his signature and the club are not going to splash enormous amounts of cash on anyone – it is just not Levy’s way of business. The question may well be made to Real Madrid, but there is likely a long way to go until any deal is agreed.
