Daniel Levy takes jaw-dropping Tottenham pay cut

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has taken a jaw-dropping pay cut after last season’s accounts have been released, sources have told Football Insider

Ange Postecoglou’s side missed out on a return to Champions League football in 2023-24 after finishing fifth in the Premier League table.

The north London giants’ accounts for 2023-24 revealed their turnover fell from £549.6million in 2022-23 to £528.2million.

That was driven by a significant drop in Uefa prize money from £56.2million to £1.3million last season, while their matchday income slipped from £117.6million to £105.8million.

However, Spurs’ commercial revenue surged from £227.7million to £255.2million as they continue to cash in on opportunities at their new stadium.

The club’s losses fell from £86.8million to £26.2million following their efforts to bring down costs.

Tottenham reduced their wage bill substantially from £251million in 2022-23 to £222million, with that figure making up 42 per cent of their overall revenue.

The accounts showed the club’s highest-paid director, which is Levy, saw his annual salary fall by around £2.9million from £6.6million to £3.7million in 2023-24.

Tottenham fans blast Daniel Levy after statement

Tottenham fans have taken aim at Levy after he’s been accused of prioritising profits over on-field success in recent years.

Addressing the calls for increased spending upon the publishing of Spurs’ accounts, Levy insisted they “cannot spend what we do not have” and he will “not compromise the financial stability of this club”.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Tottenham could have spent £190million in the recent January transfer window and still have avoided a spending breach.

However, Postecoglou was only backed with the £12.5million signing of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky as well as the loan additions of forward Mathys Tel and defender Kevin Danso.

The Australian manager is fighting to keep his job heading into the final few weeks of the season, with Tottenham sitting 14th in the Premier League table.

Ange Postecoglou sack update emerges as Tottenham pressure builds

Football Insider revealed on 1 April Postecoglou is unlikely to remain in the Tottenham dugout if he doesn’t deliver Europa League success.

Sources say this season is now “Europa League or bust” for the Spurs boss, who is under contract until June 2027.

Tottenham are set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals of the competition, with the first leg taking place in north London on 10 April.
