Daniel Sturridge says Arne Slot did something so ‘strange’ during Galatasaray vs Liverpool

Liverpool fell to a shock 1-0 defeat away at Galatasaray in their second Champions League fixture of the season.

Liverpool’s 1-0 loss to Galatasaray saw Arne Slot’s side lose their second consecutive game after losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s tactics were questioned by Pat Nevin, who felt the decision to play Jeremie Frimpong at right wing backfired.

Victor Osimhen scored a penalty to give Galatasaray the win against Liverpool, scoring his sixth goal in six games against English clubs.

Daniel Sturridge highlights ‘strange’ tactics from Arne Slot

Speaking on Amazon Prime’s coverage of Liverpool’s loss, Daniel Sturridge echoed the sentiments of Nevin regarding Slot’s tactics.

Sturridge talked about Slot’s set-up on the right-hand side, saying: “I think tonight was a moment where he thought he could give some players a game.

“Like Frimpong playing in the right wing position and Szoboszlai playing in the right-back position, which I thought was strange when I look at it, as Frimpong was brought in as a right back.”

Szoboszlai was caught out numerous times early on, and it was his trailing arm that caught Baris Yilmaz, leading to Galatasaray’s penalty, which Osimhen converted.

Arne Slot overcomplicates as summer business fails to repay investment

Slot looked to rotate his side after their poor showing at Crystal Palace on Saturday, but the Dutchman’s fixes backfired on him.

Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Conor Bradley were all dropped after the performance, but their replacements flattered to deceive.

Florian Wirtz continues to falter as the 22-year-old adjusts to life after his move from Bayer Leverkusen, with Hugo Ekitike being the only summer addition to prove his worth early on.

Slot will hope that as his side progresses through the season, they start to click and find form despite their early-season woes to start the campaign.
