Danny Ings set for Aston Villa recall after what Agbonlahor has seen
Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Steven Gerrard to start Danny Ings alongside Ollie Watkins for Aston Villa in their game against Southampton on Friday (16 September).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa striker said managers will “always” play strikers against their former clubs.
Ings has featured in five of the Villans’ Premier League games so far this season.
He has started three of those games and has only scored one goal so far in the competition.
The 30-year-old was an unused substitute for Villa’s 1-1 draw with Man City (3 September).
The striker joined the Birmingham club from Southampton last summer.

Watkins has started five Premier League games for Gerrard this season.
The 26-year-old has also only found the back of the net once for the Aston Villa but has also provided two assists.
Agbonlahor suggested Gerrard could play both Ings and Watkins against the Saints on Friday.
“I feel like he might bring Ings in and play Ings and Watkins,” he told Football Insider.
“They did really well against Southampton last season and I think Ings and Watkins played. It’s Danny Ings’ old club, managers are very clever, they’ll always play strikers against their old clubs. So I would imagine Ings and Watkins will start.
“I’d imagine he’ll play [Leon] Bailey and [Philippe] Coutinho or [Emiliano] Buendia as the two eights and maybe have [Boubacar] Kamara and [John] McGinn as the two sitters.”
Ings made 31 appearances for Villa last season across all competitions.
During those outings he scored seven goals and provided six assists.
