Manchester United’s hopes of winning the race to sign Harry Maguire rest upon what Pep Guardiola says to him during talks, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England and Manchester City player claims the Leicester City defender will wants reassurances from Guardiola before choosing Etihad Stadium as his destination.

The two Manchester giants are locked in a battle to prise the £75million-valued centre-back from the King Power this summer.

Sky Sports claim both clubs have made Maguire a key summer target and are prepared to enter talks ver a deal that would likely smash the record for an English defender.

“Maguire is brilliant at what he does, he’s 26, a full international, starting to come into his prime and has a good six or seven years of football left, “Mills told Football Insider. “I’m not surprised Man City and Man United want him.

“It’s going to be very difficult for Maguire to turn down Man City due to the power shit. What are you going to win in the next few seasons at Man United? Are they going to claw themselves back?

“It’s a big risk turning down Man City where there is stability and a manager from whom you would learn and definitely help you improve.

“It all comes down to what Guardiola says to him. If you are signing for £70-80million, you are expecting to play. Harry Maguire will say to Pep, ‘if I’m fit and playing well, will I play?’ If the answer is, ‘yes’, then he will join.”

Maguire joined Leicester in the summer of 2017 from Hull City for around £13million.

He has made 76 appearances for the club after previous lengthy stints at Hull and Sheffield United, and was one of the England key men as they reached the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.

In other Man United news, it can be REVEALED that star club goalkeeper has agreed the terms of a long-term deal with a big pay hike.
