Danny Murphy blown away by Tottenham star who was ‘outstanding’ vs Brighton

Danny Murphy was impressed by Tottenham’s spirited performance in their 2-2 draw with Brighton on Saturday.

On 20 September, Spurs came from behind to draw with Brighton as Richarlison’s close-range effort and Jan Paul van Hecke’s own goal secured a point for Thomas Frank’s men.

The Seagulls’ first-half lead arrived via Yankuba Minteh’s early strike and midfielder Yasin Ayari’s long-range goal.

Meanwhile, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Tottenham are considering a move for Sevilla star Ruben Vargas.

Danny Murphy wowed by Mohammed Kudus vs Brighton

Frank has enjoyed a largely successful start to life in the Tottenham dugout, having earned three wins and a draw from the first five Premier League games of the season.

However, Atletico Madrid ace Conor Gallagher is prepared to snub Spurs amid interest in his services from the North London side.

Meanwhile, Frank’s summer signing, Mohammed Kudus, put in an impressive performance against Fabian Hurzeler’s men, notching his third assist of the season.

Speaking about Tottenham’s draw with Brighton on Match of the Day [20 September], Murphy said: “I have to say this team is so fit, so well organised. Kudus outstanding again, causing all sorts of problems.

“(Xavi) Simons came off the bench, made a difference. They just kept going and they really limited Brighton to very few chances, which is very difficult to do when you’re throwing men forward and trying to get back in the game.

“(Joao) Palhinha doing what I’m talking about, the hard yards, breaking up play. Again, players taking responsibility to run at people, to beat players, to try and make passes that are progressive and forward-thinking.

“In the end they got their rewards and I think on their performance they deserved the win to be honest.”

What Thomas Frank said about Mohammed Kudus after Brighton draw

In their next game, Tottenham face League One outfit Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday, 24 September in the Carabao Cup.

Frank could select an experimental squad against the third-tier outfit, meaning that Kudus is not guaranteed a start.

Speaking about the 25-year-old winger in his post-match press conference on 20 September, Frank said: “I think two things. One, his work ethic has been really good. It’s big for me, how hard he works in the counter-press, high pressure, defensive side of it.

“But his hold-up play, when it goes into him, it just sticks. You can’t get it off him. So he just keeps it, he doesn’t lose a 50-50 ball, and then the third thing is his one-on-one ability is crazy. He’s so strong, he’s so explosive. He just dominated the right-hand side.”
