Danny Rohl now ‘likely’ to become Rangers manager, but ‘concerns’ won’t go away
Rangers’ search for a new manager has gone on far longer than the club intended, but they finally appear to be closing in on an appointment.
Interim boss Steven Smith’s side limped to a 2-2 draw with Dundee United at Ibrox, with initial plans for the new manager to have been in place before the game.
Football Insider first revealed on 6 October that Rangers had a four-man shortlist to replace Martin which consisted of Steven Gerrard, Sean Dyche, Danny Rohl and Kevin Muscat.
However, Dyche ruled himself out of contention early, while talks with both Gerrard and Muscat fell through in the late stages despite both having looked set to take over.
Rohl, meanwhile, was initially believed to have dropped out of the running due to the length of time taken over a decision, but there has been a new twist at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl likely to join Rangers after Kevin Muscat fell through
Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Rangers were close to an agreement with Muscat, with positive talks having taken place at Ibrox.
However, after that deal fell through, Rohl is now the most likely candidate to step into the hot seat despite initial concerns about whether he was open to the job.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Rangers plan to have the appointment wrapped up as soon as possible.
“It’s now looking likely that Rohl will be the man for Rangers,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s been very difficult to keep up with, it looked like Gerrard was going to be the one but that went wrong, then it looked like it would be Muscat.
“So after all these managers are pulling out, who do they get? As I said, Rohl looks to be the one, but even he had concerns about the job.
“I’m not sure those concerns have gone away, because the only thing that’s changed in the last week or so is that they’re now more desperate.

“Whatever concerns he had at first, they will still be there, and that might be a problem.
“All of this has played out publicly which never benefits everybody because it adds to the scrutiny.
“It’s made Rangers look second-rate, the way they’ve gone about it, but they know they have to get somebody in soon because it’s dragged on for too long.“
Rohl was interested in the Rangers job during the summer as he prepared to quit Sheffield Wednesday amid concerns about Dejphon Chansiri, and could now land the role.
Rohl emerges as the front-runner for Rangers again
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 13 October that Rangers wanted to appoint their next manager quickly, but two weeks on they have been left scrambling.
Brown told Football Insider on 14 October that Rohl is the front-runner for Rangers despite their ongoing plans to assess a number of alternative options.
Complications have since arisen surrounding his appointment, with reported frustrations on the manager’s side about the length of time taken to make a call.
However, Brown told Football Insider on 6 October that Rohl is keen to take over at Rangers and is very highly-rated by the hierarchy at Ibrox.
The German manager’s work at Sheffield Wednesday has earned him a strong reputation, and there is a feeling he would be the right man to get the club back on track.
