Danny Rohl set to cost Rangers a lot of money as baffling transfer offer is accepted
Rangers are set to part with Kieran Dowell this winter window, with the midfielder closing in on a move to Hull City.
The 28-year-old midfielder has barely featured at all for the Gers this season and is mostly seen as an unused substitute.
While Dowell did start in Rangers’ 5-0 win over Annan Athletic on Friday in the Scottish Cup, his performance has done little to convince Danny Rohl that he deserves regular appearances.
However, while an exit may be the best course of action for both parties, the manager has now ensured that the Gers will not receive a transfer fee.
Kieran Dowell set to join Hull City on loan
Rangers Review reported on 22 January that Dowell is set to join Hull City on loan until the end of the season.
This is despite the midfielder’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign.
As a result, once the loan deal is complete, he is expected to sign permanently for the Tigers as a free agent.
Frankly, this is insane, with there still being plenty of time in the transfer window to secure a permanent move and a fee for the 28-year-old.
He started it. He finished it! 🚀

Instead, by letting him leave on loan, Rohl is willingly parting with thousands that could be brought in before the window closes.
Therefore, while a departure for Dowell is clearly needed, the terms of the transfer are simply baffling.
What are Rangers’ plans for the rest of the January transfer window?
To date, Rangers have brought in three new faces as they look to win the Scottish Premiership title.
Andreas Skov Olsen became the latest new addition at Ibrox on Friday as he joined the Gers on loan from Wolfsburg.
However, Rangers could still be set for further incomings before the window closes.
- Rangers signed Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens on permanent deals midway through January
- Skov Olsen soon followed on a loan deal
- Now, the Gers eye a striker
Football Insider has recently revealed that Rangers want to bring in a new striker this winter window.
While Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski have improved at the Gers lately, Rohl is aware that he needs more support up top if the Old Firm side are to win the title.
As a result, it remains to be seen who Rangers look to target over the coming days as they seek to end the 2025-26 campaign with a trophy.
