Danny Rohl ‘to be front and centre’ of Rangers’ January overhaul, multiple deals expected

Danny Rohl will have to take full charge of Rangers’ January transfer window due to recent developments at Ibrox.

That is according to ex-Aberdeen and Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is backing Rohl to successfully manage the transfer business.

Rangers do not currently have a chief executive or sporting director after Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell were both sacked.

The process to appoint a new chief executive and sporting director at Rangers is ongoing, with club wanting to hire experienced operators.

Danny Rohl ‘to be front and centre’ of January window

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes there won’t be a “big overhaul” at Rangers in January.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Rohl will be supported at the club during the window.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Rohl is going to have to be front and centre. Luckily, it’s a January window, so it isn’t going to be such a big overhaul as a summer window, and the staff will be in place for them.

“He’ll already have a good idea of the positions he wants to strengthen in, and we’ll see how he gets on. But look, it’s not impossible to manage a January window.

“I’ve lived through the scars of a very hectic summer window and that is tough. But I think Rohl can manage this. They’ll have consultants or somebody there to help them. So they’ll get through it okay.”

Leading contender named for Ibrox position

Rangers are gathering candidates for their vacant positions at Ibrox, and Real Betis’ Manu Fajardo has been identified.

Fajardo could join Rangers as a sporting director, with Barry Ferguson also a surprise contender to take the role.

Ferguson has played for and managed Rangers, but the 47-year-old has no previous experience as a sporting director.
