Danny Rohl’s controversial transfer decision proved right after Rangers ‘uproar’

Rangers have been vindicated in their decision to turn down offers for Youssef Chermiti in the January transfer window after what he did against Hearts.

The 21-year-old scored a hattrick in a 4-2 win at Ibrox as they closed the gap to the league leaders to just two points and continued their impressive turn of form.

Chermiti‘s display was key to the victory and left Danny Rohl delighted with what he saw, having been a backer of his since he arrived at Ibrox last year.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rangers‘ stance has now paid off as the striker is proving to be a key influence on their title charge.

A brace against Celtic earlier in the season cemented his role in the side, and another crucial goalscoring display, could keep him at Ibrox for some time to come.

Rangers boosted by Youssef Chermiti transfer plan

Football Insider revealed on 1 February that Rangers had no plans to lose Chermiti, amid suggestions they had turned down an offer from Fenerbahce.

Despite a difficult start to life at Ibrox, which contributed to Kevin Thelwell’s departure after a disastrous transfer window, he is now proving his worth.

There was a lot of uproar when he signed for Rangers in the first place,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They spent a lot of money on him and maybe he didn’t hit the heights they were hoping for, but it’s clear the manager there is a big fan of his.

“Danny Rohl will have been delighted with what he saw against Hearts, and I think that shows the benefits of not rushing to conclusions.

“They could have sold him in January, maybe made a little bit of money back and then looked elsewhere for a new striker.

“But they’ve stuck with him and backed him to make a difference, and now he has done.

“People are very quick to make judgements on players, but it’s important to take your time, sit back and assess them over a longer period of time.

“Rangers are now seeing the benefits of doing that, slowing down and not rushing to find immediate success, because all too often you never find it.”

Chermiti stance opens door to Bojan Miovski exit

Rangers opting to back Chermiti as a key part of their plans may force one of his teammates out of the door, with Bojan Miovski growing frustrated with his role.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 16 February that Miovski could push to leave Rangers if he remains on the fringes of the squad come the summer.

The 26-year-old is currently unhappy with the gametime that he is receiving under Rohl, who has preferred to use Ryan Naderi and Chermiti from the start.

Miovski has started just 13 Scottish Premiership games since joining in the summer, despite the original plan for him to be their first-choice centre-forward.

In that time, he has found the net just four times, with Rangers likely to be open to his departure as well if they can get their money back.
