Danny Rohl’s Rangers striker plan revealed ahead of January transfer window

Danny Rohl could be forced to work with what he has at Rangers rather than bringing in a striker during the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Rohl took over from Russell Martin at Ibrox after the former Southampton boss was effectively hounded out of the club by fans.

Rangers currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership, but are 12 points adrift of table-topping Hearts.

Sources say that Rohl may be forced to utilise the attackers already in his squad to try and close the gap though, with the Gers hierarchy reluctant to spend big in January.

Rangers have failed to replace departing stars

Rangers have lost several important attacking players in recent times and have failed to properly replace them.

Over the summer, Hamza Igamane joined Lille, and Cyril Dessers finalised his exit on deadline day, joining Greek club Panathinaikos.

At the end of last season, Vaclav Cerny’s loan spell at Rangers ended, and the Czech winger returned to parent club Wolfsburg.

While the Gers brought in the likes of Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski, their attacking output has dropped off.

Rangers to give failing striker another chance

Meanwhile, Chermiti will be given the chance to lead the line for Rangers and a way to turn around his poor start to life at Ibrox.

Since Chermiti joined Rangers from Everton over the summer the forward has struggled to hit his stride.

The 21-year-old has scored just one goal in the league for Rohl’s side, which came in their 3-1 win over Kilmarnock.

Sources told Football Insider that Rangers plan to keep Chermiti in January, giving the forward a golden opportunity to prove himself to the new manager.
