Danny Welbeck sends emotional farewell message after Brighton exit announced

Danny Welbeck sent an emotional message on social media after a Brighton exit was announced.

The Premier League’s top clubs are duking it out for some of world football’s hottest prospects, and they’re making headlines as they do so.

However, amidst the chaos of the transfer window, Brighton are quietly doing a sublime job of bolstering Fabian Hurzeler’s squad.

The Seagulls were part of a European-chasing pack including Fulham, Bournemouth, and Brentford last term.

Each of those teams have either taken a step backwards by selling off their star talent, or simply haven’t done anything at all this summer.

Joao Pedro has joined Chelsea, but Brighton have replaced their talismanic, but often problematic Brazilian, with Charalampos Kostoulas, who looks primed to become one of Europe’s top strikers when he reaches his peak.

However, the 25-year-old is not the only striker to have departed the Amex this summer, after an exit was announced on social media.

Evan Ferguson joins AS Roma on loan from Brighton

Following a dismal spell on loan at West Ham last summer, Evan Ferguson returned to Brighton.

However, his time at the Amex has been cut short once again as the Irish striker is back on the move, this time to AS Roma in Italy.

Ferguson will join a new-look Giallorossi side after the club appointed former Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

The hulking striker took to Instagram to share an image of himself holding up a Roma shirt, captioned: “Excited to join AS Roma on loan for the season. Grateful for the warm welcome from the fans over the past few days.

“Can’t wait to get started at a club with such a rich history. Forza Roma!”

The post was liked by Welbeck, showing his support for the 20-year-old.

Gasperini the perfect manager to get Ferguson’s career back on track

Football Insider Verdict

Ferguson’s travails in recent years have been well documented, and the Irishman’s career seems to be fading before it has even begun in earnest.

Injuries have been a major factor. In the previous two seasons, the 20-year-old has missed 24 games for club and country owing to fitness issues.

However, it has not all been down to injuries. Ferguson is so obviously lacking in confidence, and the weight of expectations that came with his blistering start to life with Brighton seems to have become a burden.

But if there is one manager in world football who can help the former Bohemians forward find his shooting boots, it is Gian Piero Gasperini.

The Italian boss is iconic for the impact his coaching has on offensive players. In recent times, Ademola Lookman has become a Ballon d’Or candidate and a Barcelona target under the Italian, whilst Mateo Retegui led the Serie A in scoring last season after struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis in Argentina.

There are never any guarantees in football, and Ferguson must solve his fitness issues. But if he can stay healthy, Gasperini has the best chance of any boss of reviving the forward’s ailing career.
