Danso, Van de Ven react to Romero’s ‘see you soon’ message amid Tottenham exit talk

Tottenham duo Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso were among those to react to teammate Cristian Romero’s latest message amid speculation around his future.

While victory over Man United in the Europa League final ended a 17-year wait for a trophy for Spurs this season, the 2024/25 campaign still brought about plenty of issues for the club.

After losing 22 of their 38 league games, the North London outfit ultimately finished 17th in the Premier League table.

That has already led to Tottenham taking the decision to sack manager Ange Postecoglou, as had been reported by Football Insider.

Atletico Madrid linked with Cristian Romero

With the centre-back having been one of Spurs’ more impressive players despite those struggles in the Premier League, he has been attracting attention from elsewhere ahead of the transfer window.

Atletico Madrid have been credited with an interest in signing Romero from Tottenham, an exit which would be a blow for his current side.

The centre-back has recently been in action for Argentina in World Cup qualifying, with his nation already guaranteed their place at the tournament next year, where they will look to defend their title won in 2022.

Taking to Instagram to reflect on those outings with his national team, Romero posted a video compilation from those his latest stint on international duty.

He then accompanied that with a caption that read: “See you soon Argentina. How nice to be part of this family”.

In response, Romero’s Tottenham teammates Van de Ven and Danso both liked that post as they showed their backing for the Argentine.

Tottenham will want to keep their centre-back

Football Insider Verdict

As has been reported by Football Insider, Tottenham are closing in on Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their replacement for Postecoglou.

If the Dane does indeed take charge, last season’s Premier League results already show the challenges he will be facing with Spurs.

He is therefore going to want to keep his best players at the club, to ensure a better chance he can hit the ground running in North London.

In that respect, it could be important for Tottenham that they find a way to keep hold of Romero, given that despite his tendency for rash moments, they are much more solid with him in defence.

That ensures the future of the Argentine will be well worth keeping an eye on over the coming months.
