Darren Bent has suggested Newcastle United fans should start worrying that Fabian Schar will be the next big-name star to be sold.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England striker tipped the Switzerland centre-back to follow Ayoze Perez out of the St James’ Park exit door.
Playmaker Perez signed for Leicester City on Thursday for £30million to end a five-year spell at Newcastle that yielded 195 appearances and 48 goals for the club.
Asked by Football Insider to name any other players Newcastle fans need to worry about losing, Bent said: “The centre-half, Schar. He’s a good player he is, really good player. He really impressed me, and when he plays Newcastle look a lot more solid.
“It wouldn’t surprise me, to be honest, if someone came and got him or at least tried, in this takeover, tried to nitpick him because I really like him, I’m a big fan of his.”
Schar has made a big impact at Newcastle after signing last summer from Deportivo La Coruna for £4million.
The 47-times international established himself as a regular starter last November after biding his time for an opportunity and went on to make 24 league starts among 28 appearances in all competitions.
He has become a huge crowd favourite with his authoritative defensive displays, commitment and habit of scoring important goals.
In other Newcastle United news, Bent has tipped the club to sell one of their prize assets to Aston Villa.
