Darwin Nunez hits back with Liverpool message after Arne Slot battering

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez took to social media to hit back at recent criticism from manager Arne Slot.

The 25-year-old missed an open goal in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday (February 19) as Slot’s side dropped a crucial two points in the race for the title.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Slot called out Nunez for his poor work-rate in the wake of his horrendous open-goal missed when the score was 2-2 late on.

Slot said: “I will tell him that you can miss a chance but you cannot miss out on work-rate.

“That is the life of a striker, he will miss chances and score some. It is part of the job of a No 9, you miss when people expect you to score. It is not part of the job of a No 9 to slow down in work-rate. And that is something we will talk about.

“I can accept every miss, especially from a player who scored two very important goals away at Brentford and that scored for us in the home game against Villa. I would prefer him to score but the word ‘chance’ says it all.

One leading pundit believes Nunez isn’t going to be at Liverpool for much longer despite his positive relationship with the fans.

Darwin Nunez: ‘I’m not the worst’ after embarrassing Liverpool miss

The striker has struggled so far this season, starting 16 of his 35 games across all competitions, scoring six goals, and providing five assists in his 1710 minutes of action.

Nunez took to X, formally known as Twitter, to address the fans, saying: “I wasn’t the best three weeks ago, and I’m not the worst now. If I fall, I get up. You’ll never see me give up.

“I’m going to give it my all until the last day I’m here in Liverpool. Resilience!

Football Insider revealed (January 5) that Liverpool are open to accepting offers of £50-60million for out-of-form striker Darwin Nunez.

Slot’s side will take on current Premier League champions Man City on Sunday (February 23) in what is likely to be a crucial game for both clubs.
