Darwin Nunez on ‘a rollercoaster’ at Liverpool after ‘harsh’ injury development – pundit

Kevin Campbell has sympathised with Darwin Nunez after the Liverpool striker missed the trip to Nottingham Forest with a hamstring problem.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton goalscorer said the injury was “harsh” on the 23-year-old after an impressive display against West Ham.

Nunez was sidelined for Liverpool’s 1-0 loss at the City Ground on Saturday (22 October).

The centre-forward is in contention to return against Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday (26 October).

As pictured by club media (25 October), the Uruguay international was in full training ahead of the trip to the Johan Cruyff Arena.

The Reds need a point to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Nunez’s situation, Campbell said: “This is the life of a Premier League player.

“It is a rollercoaster. It is so tough and so uncompromising.

“Nunez played really well against West Ham. He scored the winner and looked a handful. He looks really sharp right now.

“A hamstring niggle robs him of another start against Forest. It is harsh but this is football.

“Liverpool should have enough to cope without him but with other injuries, they need him. They are relying on him to help out right now.”

Nunez has scored five goals in 12 appearances across all competitions this season.

He broke the Premier League record for the fastest speed ever recorded in the win over West Ham on 19 October.
