David Bates raves about Rangers senior duo after MOTM performance v Aberdeen
Rangers defender David Bates has raved about Danny Wilson and Fabio Cardoso after playing 45 minutes beside each as he picked up man of the match in the 2-1 win over Aberdeen on Sunday.
Bates himself was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI after injury forced Bruno Alves out of the side and the former Raith Rovers defender impressed as the Gers completed back-to-back wins over the Dons.
After starting the game beside Wilson, Bates played the second-half with Cardoso partnering him in defence after the former suffered a mild concussion and had to be replaced at the break.
Bates was named man of the match by broadcaster Sky Sports after his performance in the win over Derek McInnes’ side and was full of praise for the senior duo of Wilson and Cardoso after making his first appearance since July.
“I’ve played with Danny Wilson quite a lot last season before he got injured and I know him well,” Bates said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“He’s a brilliant centre-half positionally and he talks to you through a game as well to give you little pointers.

“I played with Fabio (Cardoso) a lot during pre-season, in a couple of Development Squad games and in the testimonial game at Berwick recently.
“I get on with both of them brilliantly and they are both really good footballers.”
The 21-year-old has spent much of the season injured after starting in both legs of the Europa League first qualifying round humiliation by Progrés Niederkorn.
The defender joined the Light Blues last summer – initially on a six-month loan deal – before signing a contract until the end of the season.
With Alves and Wilson both potentially missing the Gers clash with Ross County this weekend, Bates could get another chance to impress when Owen Coyle’s side visit Ibrox on Saturday.
