David De Gea responds to Bruno Fernandes announcement at Man United
Bruno Fernandes caught the attention of Man United legend David De Gea as a new announcement emerged at Old Trafford.
The Spaniard was the most integral part of the squad during his time with the Red Devils, much like Fernandes is now after single-handedly carrying the team to a Europa League final.
With 19 goals and 17 assists in 54 appearances this season, Fernandes has been linked with a Man United exit, attracting attention from Saudi Pro League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
Ruben Amorim has reiterated multiple times that the Portuguese star is not up for sale, but if it is to be his final season at Old Trafford, he could leave with yet another piece of silverware.
Bruno Fernandes earns plaudits away from Man United
Taking to Instagram (16 May), the official club account: “Chosen by you. Bruno Fernandes is the Adidas Football Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year,” to which De Gea simply replied: “Easy.”
Ruben Amorim’s future hangs in the balance ahead of Europa League final
Football Insider verdict
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Amorim could face “serious pressure” if Man United fail to win the Europa League final against Tottenham, with a similar situation occurring in North London.
Ange Postecoglou is also at risk of being sacked by Tottenham, and while both teams have reached a European final, their standings in the Premier League are embarrassing for two English giants.
Player | Appeances | Goals | Assists |
Bruno Fernandes | 287 | 98 | 86 |
Winning silverware could save either of their jobs, adding a new dimension to the final in Bilbao on Wednesday, 21 May, so Amorim will be hoping that Fernandes is at the top of his game.
It seems unfair that the 40-year-old has been slammed so regularly, having arrived at Old Trafford earlier than he wanted and with a squad not capable of playing his style.
Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana are all at risk of finding new clubs this summer, and exits will be needed if big-name players are to be signed by the Red Devils.
Once the summer transfer window closes and the 2025/26 campaign begins, that will be the time for the manager to be judged, and he will be hoping that Fernandes does not leave during that time.
