David Fofana set to leave Chelsea this month after Sunderland swoop – sources

David Datro Fofana is keen to play senior football and will push for a move away from Chelsea this month, sources have told Football Insider.

Sunderland, Everton and other Championship sides were linked with the 21-year-old Ivory Coast international during the English window, which has now closed.

But clubs in Turkey, Belgium and more are still able to make signings and Fofana is likely to go out.

He is training away from the first team at Chelsea and will not be involved for Enzo Maresca’s side this term.

The forward was just one of several players demoted from the senior setup, but the likes of Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja all secured exits before 30 August.

Fofana spent the first half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Union Berlin, scoring twice in 17 games.

He then went on loan to Burnley earlier this year and hit four goals in 15 appearances.

The 21-year-old has made just four senior Chelsea appearances since joining from Molde in January 2023.

Fofana is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2029 but the Blues are open to permanent and loan offers from around Europe.

Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka are also set for no first-team involvement this season and could exit this month despite the English window slamming shut.

Chelsea have brought several forwards ahead of Fofana – including Joao Felix, Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu and more.
