David Fofana’s Chelsea transfer has collapsed – journalist
Chelsea striker David Fofana could remain at the club until the next transfer window as his deal to join AEK Athens has reportedly collapsed.
The Blues had been working to offload the 21-year-old and the Greek club wanted to sign him before their transfer window closes on Wednesday.
According to journalist Nizaar Kinsella, the deal between the two clubs is currently considered off after AEK Athens struggled to meet Chelsea’s terms.
Football Insider had revealed that Chelsea are expecting to receive a smaller fee than the £8.4million they paid for him, but they had hoped add-ons would lead to them making a profit.
However, the Greek outfit are now focusing their attention on Maccabi Haifa’s Frantzdy Pierrot as an alternative.
The deal isn’t completely dead, as the Greece transfer window runs until tomorrow night if the clubs are able to negotiate.
Chelsea want to cut their losses with David Fofana
Chelsea are looking to push the outcast out of Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis after loans at Union Berlin and Burnley.
Fofana did prove his ability to play in the Premier League last season when he scored four goals for the Clarets.
However, no Premier League side came in to make an offer to sign the striker during the British transfer window.

Fofana has only made three appearances for Chelsea since he joined the club in January 2023, having failed to make his mark at the club.
Enzo Maresca has made it clear Fofana isn’t part of his plans, and he has been training away from the first team this season.
