David Gold reveals why West Ham winger has not featured in pre-season
By Danny Wright
West Ham co-owner David Gold has revealed that Martin Samuelsen has not taken part in the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria due to an injury.
The 80-year-old, who is known for keeping fans updated on Twitter about all matters concerning the Irons, added that Samuelsen is set to return soon.
The young winger is highly-rated by the West Ham supporters, who are always eager to see talent emerge from their development squad into the first-team.
However Samuelsen has only made two senior appearances for the Hammers, which worried one fan enough to ask Gold on Twitter about the Norwegian international’s situation.
“Martin is injured, back soon,” said Gold on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday night.
Samuelsen spent the second half of last season in his second loan spell with Peterborough after spending the opening few months of the campaign with Blackburn, where he failed to earn much first-team football.
He made just four appearances for the Rovers but then struggled again with Peterborough as he started just four matches in League One, despite running the show in a 2-0 win against Charlton when he scored and supplied an assist.
The two-times Norway international has not featured in a competitive first-team match for West Ham since playing in the Europa League qualifier wins against Birkirkara almost two years ago.
They have been his only two appearances in the Hammers senior squad since he joined from Manchester City in 2015.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have had a mammoth bid of over £24.3million accepted for this lightning quick Serie A star.
