David Moyes’ January transfer budget revealed at Everton – O’Rourke

Everton new manager David Moyes will not have a big January transfer kitty to play with, sources have told Football Insider.

Moyes has returned to Goodison Park, replacing sacked boss Sean Dyche and signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Merseysiders.

He comes in with Everton sitting 16th in the Premier League and just one point above the drop zone.

The Scot is aware of the financial situation and will have to work under significant restrictions for the mid-season transfer window, which shuts on 3 February.

It is believed Everton will be restricted to loan signings for the January window – and one domestic spot remains open for use this month.

Moyes has already spoken in the media since his return, insisting he is keen to bring in “elite” players for the opening of the club’s new stadium in time for the 2025-26 campaign.

Sources say the transfer budget will be boosted for the summer window should he secure the club’s Premier League status in the remainder of this season.

The takeover of The Friedkin Group (TFG) will provide much-needed funds, while Everton’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) situation will look much healthier once this season is out of the way.

Everton currently sit 16th and in action for Moyes’ first game against Aston Villa on Wednesday (15 January).

The Toffees already have Jesper Lindstrom, Armando Broja and Orel Mangala on loan and will have to add to that contingent if they are to improve the squad in the January window.

Moyes’ side remain in the FA Cup and will play Bournemouth in the fourth round (8 February).
