David Moyes latest at Everton ‘incredible’ amid amazement at West Ham – ‘Wow’
David Moyes’ sacking by West Ham has caused renewed consternation in the wake of the latest “incredible” developments at Everton.
The Scot returned to Goodison Park in January, over 11 years after he had left the club following a long spell in charge of the Toffees between 2002 and 2011.
Moyes admitted he had been scared of getting Everton relegated from the Premier League when he returned to the club.
At the time of his return to replace Sean Dyche the Toffees had been 16th in the standings just one point clear of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Moyes had been out of work since leaving West Ham at the end of last season after a ninth place finish in the top-flight.
Now though, his concerns about taking taking the Merseyside down club down to the Championship have been proven very much unfounded.

Everton climbing the table under David Moyes
On Saturday (12 April), Everton beat Champions League-chasing Nottingham Forest 1-0 at The City Ground.
A last-minute winner from Abdoulaye Doucoure secured all three points for Moyes’ side, meaning they are now 14th in the table, 18 points clear of the relegation zone.
Indeed, Everton have lost just two of their 13 Premier League games since the 61-year-old returned to the club.
By contrast, West Ham are currently 16th and three points behind the Toffees, with a game in hand to come against league leaders Liverpool on Sunday (13 April).
Everton last five games | Result |
Wolves (A) | Drew 1-1 |
West Ham (H) | Drew 1-1 |
Liverpool (A) | Lost 1-0 |
Arsenal (H) | Drew 1-1 |
Nottingham Forest (A) | Won 1-0 |
That has now prompted Kris Boyd to aim a dig at the Hammers over their decision to get rid of Moyes last summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday about that win for Everton, the former Rangers striker said of the win over Forest (12 April, 5:35pm):
“It was just a real good team performance, and you’ve got to say David Moyes, the job he’s done since he’s come in is incredible.”
The ex-Scotland international then added in a deadpan and sarcastic style: “I mean to think he wasn’t good enough for West Ham? Wow.”
West Ham managerial change understandable
Football Insider Verdict
There is no denying Moyes did an excellent job with West Ham, not least in guiding them to victory in the UEFA Conference League during the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite that, things had become very much stagnant during the following campaign that led to the Scot’s departure from the London Stadium.
Performances were far from inspiring, and many West Ham fans were calling for Moyes to leave the club before the 2023/24 campaign ended.
Beyond that, Moyes had also fallen out with technical director Tim Steidten at the London Stadium, so keeping him at the club would have risked things turning toxic.
That could have let led to things becoming very problematic for West Ham anyway, and so the decision to let Moyes go was not the wrong one, although it seems they are yet to find the replacement for him.
Such a situation is unlikely to be a concern for those at Everton, who are very much reaping the benefits of the Scot being available to return for a second spell with the club.
