David Moyes transfer problem exposed as £30m Everton star is ‘not good enough’

David Moyes’ progress at Everton could be hindered by a problem in one position which is threatening to stall their push for European football.

Everton’s 2-1 win against Crystal Palace, lifted Moyes’ side up to eighth in the Premier League table and kept their unbeaten run at the Hill Dickinson Stadium alive.

Jack Grealish’s move from Man City to Everton has proven to be a revelation for the 30-year-old, who has one goal and four assists in nine appearances for the club.

However, Everton struggled in the transfer window and the club could be paying the price, with a failure to address one position costing Moyes.

Beto ‘not good enough’ at Everton

Everton signed Beto for £30million, as per BBC Sport, back in 2023, but the striker has not yet reached double figures for the club.

Thierno Barry joined Everton in the summer, and the 22-year-old hasn’t scored his first goal for the club yet.

Speaking on BBC Sport, [7 October], Phil McNulty believes Everton’s issues up-front are not helping Moyes in what could be a positive season.

I do think Everton have a real chance of finishing in the top half this season. They look much better under David Moyes – although I still think he made a huge error picking a weakened team against Wolves in the Carabao Cup,” McNulty said.

Everton fans are desperate for a trophy after 30 barren years. It was a needless waste of a chance to go far in a competition they should have targeted.

“If there’s anything that is going to hold them back, it is exactly what you have said. Beto is not good enough and I think we have to be kind and say Thierno Barry is a work in progress.

Either way, neither are up to it at the moment and you suspect Moyes also knows it from the way he is chopping and changing them, often during games and even at half-time.”

Everton’s current top scorer is Illiman Ndiaye with three goals, with six other players on one goal each after seven matches.

Beto and Thierno Barry stats must improve

For many seasons now Everton have struggled up-front with a collective lack of goals, and whilst creativity and creating chances isn’t an issue anymore, scoring them still is.

Beto’s best season at Everton was last campaign, when he netted 10 goals in all competitions, which is not going to help the Toffees climb the table.

This season the 27-year-old should have scored more goals than he currently has, which shows a lack of ruthlessness.

Barry has had little impact when he’s come on so far, with just two starts, and whilst their must be patience over the striker, ultimately Moyes may have to revisit the transfer market to find a solution to his goal scoring problems.
