Davide Ancelotti thinks ‘Rangers deal is realistic’ in new twist

Davide Ancelotti is confident he will be able to attract big-name players to Rangers if he is named as the club’s next manager.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Rangers’ transfer plans.

Having worked with star names during his time at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Napoli, the potential new boss is keen to do so again in Scotland.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 May that Rangers could break the bank to back Ancelotti in the transfer market.

Links with moves for the likes of Luka Modric and David Alaba have emerged in recent weeks, as the players are keen to play and work under the former Real Madrid coach.

That view is also shared at Ibrox as Football Insider exclusively revealed on 17 May that Rangers have been impressed by Ancelotti and his work on the training ground in Madrid.

Davide Ancelotti backed to bring Luka Modric to Rangers

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider that Rangers could sign Modric alongside Ancelotti after he announced he would be leaving Real Madrid.

Behind-the-scenes talks with the boss have stepped up in recent weeks, increasing the chances that he will be given the chance to bring in some former players.

O’Rourke explained that, despite the potentially lofty wages these players will demand, there is confidence that Ancelotti can persuade them to join him.

Ancelotti thinks the deals are realistic,” he told Football Insider.

“Obviously, there will be question marks over the finances and whether Rangers can afford the wages that some of these top players are on.

“Ancelotti does seem to have a pull with players.

“A lot of the Real Madrid players were very impressed having worked under him.

“He’s a modern-day coach, really forward-thinking and innovative, his training sessions are meant to be really good.

“He’s worked with top players wherever he’s been at the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Napoli.

“So he obviously has gained the respect of these players and that will definitely give him a pull if these players want to play and work under him.

Nicolas Raskin transfer update emerges at Ibrox

Alongside ambitions of big-name signings at Ibrox this summer, there has been speculation that some of their current crop of players could leave.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 27 May that Nicolas Raskin is wanted by Premier League clubs ahead of the window opening.

The Belgium international is being watched by a number of English sides who are determining whether he is ready for the step up.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Leeds United could sign Raskin with help from 49ers Enterprises after their Ibrox takeover.
