Gabby Agbonlahor is tipping Keinan Davis to start his first Premier League game of the season when Aston Villa face Everton tonight.
The former Villa hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Davis should start as a striker ahead of Wesley.
Ollie Watkins will miss tonight’s clash after getting sent off in last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Manchester United.
As a natural striker, Wesley may be the obvious choice to replace Watkins but he only has 14 top-flight minutes to his name this season.
The versatile Davis, 23, has provided some impressive cameos from the Villa bench in recent weeks.
Gregg Evans of The Athletic, claims ‘Keinan Davis is the most obvious replacement’ for Watkins considering Wesley is still recovering from his long-term injury.
Agbonlahor claims tonight’s clash is the perfect time to give Davis a well-earned start.
“I can see a start for Kienan Davis,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Fans have been calling for him to start recently. This is the game I would start him in.
“To be honest, I know Wesley may be close to a start but this is where I’d change it up and go four four two.
“I don’t think Wesley is quite fit to start. He’s only played a few minutes here and there.
“We should set up how we did when we beat them a few weeks ago, just with Davis in for Watkins.
“It’s a great chance for Davis to cause them problems.”
Wesley continues his recovery from the injury that has kept him sidelined for over 12 months.
The Villains face Everton at Villa Park tonight with kick off at 6pm.
