'It’s dead' - Wenger confirms huge Arsenal transfer blow
By Abigail Withey
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Monaco winger Thomas Lemar definitely won’t be moving to Arsenal this summer.
The 21-year-old winger has been widely linked with a move to the Emirates for most of the summer transfer window and at the beginning of August, L’Equipe claimed that Lemar has expressed an interest in joining.
However, the north London boss has confirmed the end of the summer transfer saga which has surrounded the club over the past few months, but it hasn’t come to the resolution that fans would have hoped.
“It’s dead because Monaco don’t want to sell,” Wenger said confirming the huge transfer blow, as quoted by the Sun.
“Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho… they have lost already Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko.

“So Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door.”
The news will greatly disappoint Arsenal fans who while has undoubtably hoped that Lemar would improve their chances of regaining a place in the top four and their Champions League spot.
Arsenal had a promising start to the season after securing a victory over Chelsea to win the Community Shield at the beginning of August which was followed by an eventful 3-2 win against Leicester in the opening game of the Premier League season.
However, last weekend Wenger’s side failed to continue their success and pick up any points during their 1-0 defeat to Stoke City.
Football Insider verdict
Both Wenger and Arsenal supporters will be absolutely gutted with the club’s failure to secure Lemar this summer. A number of reports raised the hopes, but Wenger seems pretty final on his verdict and it’s unlikely that there would be a huge turn around in the final week of the transfer window. Lemar’s pace on the wing and crossing ability would’ve been incredibly useful over the next season, but the manager can’t dwell on the unsuccessful pursuits and instead but turn his attention to securing an exceptional player as deadline day looms closer. Signing another player will create more trust in the manager from fans, with many of the Arsenal supporters losing faith in the boss last season.
