Deal close: Leeds poised to complete attacker transfer on Monday – reliable journalist
By Matt Farr
Leeds United are on the verge of completing a deal to sign SD Huesca attacker Samu Saiz, according to a reliable journalist.
Radio Yorkshire presenter Joe Rawson claimed on his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon that a deal for the 26-year-old could be completed within the next 24 hours.
The player’s representative Juan Moreno had earlier revealed to the Yorkshire Evening Post that the Championship club one of several clubs interested in a move for his client this summer.
However, the latest update from Rawson suggests that a deal is in the advanced stages, and that it could be complete “as early as tomorrow”.
Saiz, who can play as a secondary striker, as a winger, or as a centre-forward, was in impressive form for Huesca during the 2016-17 campaign, contributing 12 goals and nine assists from 44 appearances in all competitions.
He is poised to become the fourth summer signing for Leeds this summer, and the third made by new manager Thomas Christiansen, as he seeks to add his own reinforcements to the first-team squad at Elland Road.
Christiansen has already brought in Poland midfielder Mateusz Klich and goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald from top-flight opposition, while the club had earlier confirmed a permanent deal to sign on loan attacker Hadi Sacko.
Football Insider verdict
Leeds must add another capable goalscorer to their ranks ahead of the new season, or they risk being condemned to at least another year in the Championship. Chris Wood almost singlehandedly fronted the club’s promotion push last term with his goals, and Christiansen inherits a squad with few prolific alternatives. Saiz has proven he can score goals at his current level with Huesca, and he could be a valuable addition to the Leeds squad. More importantly, he can also operate in a team alongside Wood, meaning he would not just be a backup option. Leeds have worked quickly to get their transfer business complete early doors, and Saiz could well be done by this time tomorrow.
