Deal done: Midfielder seals Arsenal exit

By Abigail Withey

Arsenal have confirmed that young midfielder Savvas Mourgos has left the club to sign for Championship side Norwich.

The Gunners announced on their official Twitter account and official website on Tuesday that the 19-year-old had secured a move to the East Anglia club.

The teenager initially joined the north London club on a free transfer from Greek outfit Panionios back in 2014 and established himself in the Under 18s squad before he moved up to the Under 23s last season.

The youth player made five Under-23s appearances throughout the previous campaign and has now moved across to Norwich’s development squad.

The Canaries revealed in a statement on their official website that Mourgos will now begin training with his new squad and could potentially make his debut on Friday evening as the Under-23s take on Stoke in the Premier League 2.

Football Insider Verdict

Many Arsenal fans weren’t aware of the young midfielder as he was yet to make a senior debut. However, the Gunners are known for growing and developing fantastic players through their academy, and it’s likely that Mourgos is no different. The likes of Jack Wilshere and Alex Iwobi have grown through the infamous academy and have gone on to thrive in the first-team. Recently Wenger has featured academy star Reiss Nelson among the senior squad members, who proved himself while on the club’s pre-season tour. Sending Mourgos off on a permanent transfer may have not been the best move as his talents could’ve provide useful to Wenger further down the line, and a loan move may have been a bit better suited, but he will be a great addition for the Canaries.
