Dean Huijsen and Liverpool star Andy Robertson react to major Bournemouth news

Bournemouth news has drawn a reaction from Cherries stars such as Dean Huijsen and Evanilson, as well as rivals including Liverpool’s Andy Robertson alike.

Ryan Christie has posted an update on social media after his season was brought to a premature conclusion with the decision to undergo surgery.

The 30-year-old has played in 29 of the Cherries’ 31 Premier League fixtures this campaign, however with the injury worsening in recent weeks, Christie had been unable to complete the full 90 minutes in any of his last nine appearances.

Andoni Iraola will need to find a solution to replace the midfielder in his current system, with Bournemouth clinging onto the hope for a late push for European football next season.

The aim for Christie now will be to complete success surgery on his groin, before enduring a rehabilitation programme with the objective of being fit when the Premier League returns in August.

Christie’s teammates rally around him following the news

In a post via Instagram on Tuesday (8 April), the Scotland international addressed the news with a short message saying: “Time to heal” in which multiple Bournemouth teammates sent messages of support.

Christie kept his post short but sweet in light of the news.

Evanilson and Dean Huijsen, who is being targeted for a possible Liverpool transfer, reacted to the post by commenting with a love heart emoji with the latter adding a praying sign alongside.

International teammates, Andy Robertson and Billy Gilmour also showed their support and followed suit with Evanilson in commenting a love heart emoji.

Christie a big miss for Bournemouth

Football Insider verdict

Under Iraola the versatile midfielder has been a mainstay in the starting eleven, playing 2,131 minutes across 29 Premier League games this season.

Christie adds more than just goal contributions to this Bournemouth side, as on the surface his two goals and three assists do not look massively impressive.

However, in terms of expected attacking metrics, Christie’s non-penalty expected goals (npxG) per 90 minutes stands at 0.14, with an expected assists (xA) per 90 minutes of 0.21.

Christie’s stats 24/25Metric
Expected non-penalty expected goals 0.14
Expected assists 0.21
Ball recoveries 154
Christie has been a well-rounded player this season.

This is enough to place him above 76% of players in the league, further highlighting his underrated importance to Iraola’s system.

Defensively, Christie has been notably effective, leading the Premier League in ball recoveries with 154 possessions won, surpassing many of Europe’s elite players.
