Mathieu Debuchy will be sidelined for up to three weeks with a muscular injury, Bordeaux confirmed on Tuesday night.

The France international sustained the injury during the club’s recent 0-0 draw with Nice and is expected to be out of action until the middle of March.

It is a blow for Debuchy so soon after joining the French club on a deadline-day loan from Arsenal until the end of the season.

“Tests have revealed a muscular injury. The France international will be unavailable for a period of between two and three weeks,” read a statement on the Bordeaux website.

Debuchy joined the Ligue 1 club on the final day of the January window after talks over a move to Aston Villa collapsed and Arsene Wenger blocked a late swoop from Manchester United.
