‘Definitely a top option’ – Man United ‘considering’ 32-yr-oldas Ruben Amorim’s replacement
Ruben Amorim is fighting for his job at Man United with calls for his dismissal growing after another dismal start to the season.
Man United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford ramped up the pressure yet again, as Amorim has now won just nine of his 33 Premier League games in charge, losing 17.
Calls for the manager to be dismissed have reignited amongst the fans, while the ground work is seemingly being laid behind the scenes.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains determined to back Amorim despite the poor start to the season and has dismissed suggestions he could be sacked.
However, a number of alternatives have emerged with efforts ongoing behind the scenes to identify his potential replacement at Man United.

Fabian Hurzeler on Man United’s list to replace Ruben Amorim
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler, 32, has now emerged as the latest contender for United thanks to his “exceptional” work since arriving on the south coast.
That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Hurzeler is “definitely a top option” to replace Amorim.
While there are multiple names on the list as things stand, the Brighton boss has impressed the United hierarchy with his style of play at the Amex.
“From what I hear, the Brighton manager is one they’d consider,” he told Football Insider.
“There are a few on their list, but he’s definitely a top option because it seems to me they want somebody with a bit of experience in the Premier League.
“I think he’s probably a bit of a different option and a different direction to somebody like Southgate, with the way his teams play, so it’s an alternative.

“He’s done exceptionally well with Brighton, he’s managed well and coached his side well, because they look like a good team.
“It’s just about whether that would translate to Man United, because it’s a different prospect to a team like Brighton for example, you don’t get away with anything.
“The pressure often makes a difference too, so they’ll have to assess whether he or any of the other contenders would be able to deal with it.”
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in June that Hurzeler was concerned about Brighton after losing key players, and he could now be tempted to jump ship.
Man United’s three-man managerial shortlist revealed
While Hurzeler has emerged as a new contender for the role, Man United have identified three top candidates for the job: Oliver Glasner, Marco Silva and Gareth Southgate.
The Crystal Palace and Fulham bosses, similar to Hurzeler, have impressed in the Premier League and have been backed to improve United’s side.
Southgate, meanwhile, has emerged as an option after his success with England and is believed to have admirers behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Brown told Football Insider on 30 September that Southgate is a “leading candidate” for Man United and would provide stability amongst the chaos at Old Trafford.
Since his departure from England following the European Championships in 2024, Southgate has been heavily linked with a return to Premier League football.
