Defoe tipped to snub offer from billionaire-owned club and sign new Rangers deal
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Jermain Defoe is not motivated by money and may still have a future with Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa captain insisted his ex-England teammate will be motivated by the “project” at Ibrox.
Football Insider revealed on May 26 that League One big hitters Ipswich Town were preparing a big-money contract offer for the striker.
The cash-rich club, under new American owners Gamechanger Ltd, who are backed by a £9bn investment fund, have subsequently been in contact with Defoe in attempts to lure him to East Anglia.
Defoe has spoken glowingly of the club all season and told Sky Sports last month, as relayed by the Daily Record, he wants to stay at Ibrox “forever”.
The former England international scored seven goals in 20 games this season, including two goals in the final three league games.

Asked for his assessment of Defoe’s situation, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think money will come into it too much.
“Jermain Defoe will have earned millions in his career. He loves playing football.
“The project of staying at Rangers and playing in the Champions League is something I would prefer than going to Ipswich for more money.
“I’m sure Jermain Defoe will too. His Rangers future is not over yet and they’ll still be negotiating.”
Defoe has scored 32 goals and provided 10 assists in 72 games for Steven Gerrard’s side since moving to Ibrox in January 2019, initially on loan.
He scored the 300th league goal of his career this term as Rangers won the Scottish Premiership – the first league title of Defoe’s illustrious career.
