Dejphon Chansiri may ‘no longer be in a position of power’ at Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have been offered hope that Dejphon Chansiri may be forced out of the club, although it will come with some consequences.
That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley who told Football Insider exclusively what impact Sheffield Wednesday’s winding up petition may have on the club.
Sheffield Wednesday have been handed numerous embargos with wages not being paid on time in five of the past seven months.
Chansiri is asking for £100million for Sheffield Wednesday, a sum no prospective buyer has reached which is continuing to harm the club on and off the pitch.

Administration could force Dejphon Chansiri out
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley believes that potential administration for Sheffield Wednesday could lead to Chansiri’s long-awaited exit.
“In any other situation this would be a concerning point in time for a football club,” Plumley said.
“Administration is a word which carries a lot of fear in the fan base, but if you look at the situation has played out at that club over the past few months and the fan anger at the owner currently and the boycotts and the pitch invasions.
“There is some positivity to take from administration if it goes down that road that it might get the current owner out, and that’s what it would ultimately allow to do. Administrators would take control of the club day-to-day and the current owner would no longer be in a position of power.
“So you don’t like the term administration in football club language, its still not nice and it brings with it a lot of uncertainty and ultimately people won’t get paid. People who are owed money by the club might have to miss out on those payments because that money just isn’t going to be there.
“A sporting penalty too of course, it would mean a points deduction so there are on-pitch implications.
“So normally speaking it is a really bad thing, but the way the ownership structure is at that club, a lot of the fanbase have already come out and said already that actually this is the way to get the owner out then this is what the club has got to do and they understand that as well.
“It’s really tricky because it might be short-term pain for long-term gain and hopefully a buyer can come in to sort it out and turn that club around.”
Update on prospective Sheffield Wednesday buyers
Plumley also thinks that administration may be the turning point for potential buyers to publicly state their interest in taking over the club.
“We know there are people interested, we see a lot of John Textor being mentioned, we’ve seen Mike Ashley’s name been mentioned, there are a few others I’m sure there are waiting in the wings,” Plumley said.
“There’s a lot of interest always in buying a football club across the board. We’ve seen people who want to buy the club having real issues communicating with the current owner.
“There might be a few parties here who have been waiting for this kind of scenario so the names that are in the mix makes sense and if they’re in the mix and that’s true then you’d be hopeful that if it does go down the administration route that a buyer could be found and I’m sure there will be interested parties.”
