Derby County open talks to sign Rotherham star Conor Washington – sources

Derby County are in talks to sign Rotherham United striker Conor Washington, sources have told Football Insider.

The League One club are working on a deal to land the Northern Ireland international, 31, after losing David McGoldrick to Notts County.

Washington, who is in the final year of his contract, scored six goals in 37 appearances in all competitions last season.

Derby boss Paul Warne is a big admirer of Washington having signed the former Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers forward when he was in charge of Rotherham.

Washington signed for the Yorkshire side last summer (2022) on a two-year deal and scored five Championship goals in the 2022-23 campaign.

The centre-forward, who can also play on either flank, enjoyed great success in League One with Charlton Athletic before he joined Rotherham.

Washington scored 22 goals in 71 appearances for the Addicks across two seasons – during which they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship.

The 31-year-old is also a regular on the international scene, making 37 appearances for Northern Ireland – with a handful of those caps coming in his side’s famous Euro 2016 run.
