‘Derek McInnes will be the next Rangers manager’ after source’s reveal
Rangers fans want Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes to take over should the club decide to part ways with Philippe Clement.
McInnes is believed to be a top contender for the post should it become available in the coming weeks following a wretched start to the season for the Glasgow giants.
The Rangers board are considering their options and sources have told Football Insider that they have discussed potential options – one of whom is McInnes – should they look to dismiss Clement.
This comes despite the board extending the manager’s contract during the summer transfer window, keeping him at Ibrox until 2028.
Rangers were unable to capitalise on top two Celtic and Aberdeen dropping points last Saturday as they sank to a 1-0 defeat to McInnes’ Kilmarnock on Sunday (October 20).
Marley Watkins, 34, bagged the 84th-minute winner to secure all three points for the home side and further pile the pressure on Clement.
Rangers fans call for Derek McInnes to become new manager
McInnes is under contract at Kilmarnock until 2027 but the club would find it hard to resist Rangers’ advances if they did come in for him.
Sitting in third and underwhelmed by their start to the Scottish Premier League season, the Ibrox faithful took to X, formally known as Twitter, to discuss the future.
