‘Destiny Udogie finished at Tottenham after rapid fall under Ange Postecoglou’
Destiny Udogie’s time at Tottenham could come to a rather sorry ending as the club set their sights on a new target.
Ange Postecoglou will be lucky to still be in charge at Tottenham once the current campaign ends, with his Spurs team currently sitting 15th in the Premier League table and out of all domestic cup competitions.
Despite this, there is a real chance of bringing silverware back to North London, with the Lilywhites facing Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals, albeit with little help from Udogie.
The Italian has been one of several key players to be unavailable for large parts of the season thanks to injury, with Tottenham defensive duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero also spending long periods in the treatment room.
Udogie has started just 22 of Spurs’ 31 league matches, only three of their Europa League clashes, and that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the full-back’s injury record in North London.

Destiny Udogie quickly becoming a liability for Tottenham
The 22-year-old missed 11 games for club and country last campaign, picking up a similar injury to this term, and continues to miss the occasional match when Postecoglou most needs him.
Even when fit, he has looked a shell of his former self, picking up just a single goal contribution across all competitions, far fewer than two goals and five assists in the 2023/24 season when it looked like the left-back role had been filled for the foreseeable future.
However, with Ben Davies now suiting a centre-back role, and Sergio Reguilon an unwanted figure by the Lilywhites, the manager has no other option but to keep playing him at left-back, unless Djed Spence fills in, with the Englishman’s revival this term mirroring Udogie’s rapid regression.
Postecoglou might just be planning ahead to the summer transfer window, though, with a signing that could end Udogie’s miserable spell at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou wants Tyrick Mitchell from Crystal Palace
According to talkSPORT (9 April), Spurs are preparing a summer swoop for Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell, viewing him as a replacement for Udogie following a poor season in North London.
While the Palace academy graduate is three years older, those years come with more experience, a far more impressive injury record, and a much better defensive ability in front of his own goal.

He has not missed a game through injury since the 2020/21 campaign, certainly making him a player Postecoglou would love, given the eye-watering number of casualties on his hands this term, should the Australian survive past the end of the current campaign.
Mitchell now has 180 senior appearances for the Eagles, and if he were to make the switch across London, there is absolutely no doubt that he would push Udogie out of Spurs’ exit doors in the same window.
