Destiny Udogie rages at VAR in explosive message after analysing Tottenham footage

Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie has taken to social media to take a swipe at VAR after a controversial handball incident in their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday (January 4).

The 22-year-old is one of nine Tottenham players ruled out through injury, illness, or suspension as Ange Postecoglu’s side fell to their third defeat in their last five games across all competitions.

Spurs started brightly, opening the scoring through Dominic Solanke after just four minutes before Anthony Gordon equalised three minutes later.

Controversy came in the build-up when the ball appeared to strike Joelinton’s hand just before the goal, VAR checked, and the goal stood.

The Premier League later released a statement explaining why the goal stood, saying: “The referee’s call of goal was confirmed by VAR, who checked for a potential handball by Joelinton in the build-up and deemed that his arm was by his side, in a natural position and the contact was accidental.”

Alexander Isak continued his fine form, scoring the winner just before half-time to secure an impressive three points for Eddie Howe’s side.

The defeat to Newcastle is a serious dent in Tottenham’s European ambitions, potentially falling to 14th after the weekend’s games.

Destiny Udogie unhappy with VAR as Tottenham fall to Newcastle defeat

Udogie has been a key player for Spurs so far this season, starting 21 of his 23 games across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing one assist in his 1816 minutes of action.

The Italian defender was clearly unimpressed with the VAR decision leading to Newcastle’s equaliser, taking to Snapchat to say: “VAR what a joke.”

Spurs host Arne Slot’s impressive Liverpool side for their League Cup semi-final, hoping to put their poor form behind them and win their first piece of silverware in 16 years.

They then face non-league Tamworth in their first FA Cup game of the season in what should be a routine win for the Premier League side.
