'Diabolical' - Sky Sports pundit launches savage attack after Newcastle hammer Chelsea
Former Liverpool star and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has launched a savage attack on the Chelsea players after they were hammered 3-0 by Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Blues arrived at St James’ Park knowing that only three points would put them in with a chance of securing Champions League football next season but it was the Magpies, themselves fighting for a top 10 finish in a hotly fought race as the season came to a close, who finished with the three points.
Goals from Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez was what it took for Rafael Benitez and his side to pick up victory, and Redknapp, while impressed with what he saw from the Magpies, was fuming with Antonio Conte’s men.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ coverage, (13/05), he said: “Chelsea have been diabolical. Honestly, the way that they have played considering what is at stake.
“They’ve not made a challenge, they’ve not made a tackle and they have not made any imprint on this game whatsoever, but Newcastle have been brilliant.
“Chelsea have been abject and Newcastle have just wanted it more. I mean it was a shambles. I feel sorry for the fans that came up here.

“Newcastle were brilliant, I must admit, they deserved it, all over park they were the better team, they closed, they pressed them.”
Football Insider verdict
What a way for the Magpies to finish their campaign, with a result which will have the fans celebrating for the weeks to come as the dust settles on the season. A top 10 finish is outstanding considering it is their first campaign back in the Premier League, and they were well deserving of their final position with the performance they put in against the Blues. Redknapp is not wrong in his verdict though, for Conte’s side looked like they were already on the beach ahead of the summer, and the Sky Sports pundit will not be the only one who is totally livid with Chelsea. Still, it should take nothing away from Newcastle’s display, as they dominate in every single area on the St James’ Park pitch. If they can replicate this outing next season, then they may well be pushing for a top 10 spot – or higher – in 12 months time.
