'A different proposition' - Michael Owen predicts Newcastle clash v Bournemouth

By Russell Edge

Former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen says the Magpies’ home form will help them secure the three points against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Rafael Benitez has helped turn St James’ Park into somewhat of a fortress this season, with the opening day defeat to Tottenham the only league loss suffered in front of the Toon Army so far.

That run includes wins over West Ham, Stoke City and Crystal Palace and a well fought draw against Liverpool, which has helped the club reach ninth in the league table on their return to the top flight.

As a result of their impressive displays in front of their own fans, Michael Owen has backed the Magpies to bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Monday when south coast side Bournemouth make the long journey to the north east.

Predicting a win for Newcastle, he wrote in his blog for betting agency BetVictor: “Rafa Benitez has won all five PL home games played on a Saturday with Newcastle and I think he will make it six out of six when the Cherries visit St James’s Park.

“The Magpies weren’t at their best at Turf Moor on Monday but they are a different proposition at home and I think they can keep the points.”

Eddie Howe’s side also come into the clash on the back of a defeat, having succumbed to an Eden Hazard winner in their 1-0 loss against Chelsea at Dean Court, which has left them languishing in the relegation zone in 19th, sitting just one point off safety.

Newcastle’s last head-to-head with the Cherries came back in March 2016, when they were humbled 3-1 in front their home fans, in what proved to be Steve McClaren’s last game in charge of the club.

In other Newcastle United news, Benitez has tried to sell this star twice and will do so again in the January transfer window.
