Alan Hutton insists that new Leeds United signing Robin Koch has some “massive boots” to fill after he replaced Ben White at Elland Road.

The former Aston Villa and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits the Brighton man was a “star player” for Marcelo Bielsa and it will be “difficult” to get over his absence.

Leeds confirmed the capture of 24-year-old Koch on Saturday afternoon after the Germany international signed a four-year deal in West Yorkshire.

As revealed in August, Leeds had three bids, the highest a £30million offer, rejected by Brighton after his impressive loan spell and as a result the Whites turned to their new arrival.

Hutton admits that no matter how good Koch might be, losing White back to the Seagulls will have rocked the boat at Elland Road this summer.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I don’t know much about their new signing, I just know it’s going to be a massive test for him coming into the new league, kind of a new league. We’ll have to wait and see and pass our judgement when we know better.

“Massive boots to fill, he was one of their star players last season so to lose someone like that, even for the players round about him, if I’m a full-back and I look over and see how solid he was all season, I want to play with him this season.

“To find out he’s not there and definitely won’t be there, it’s difficult to move on from that.”

White played every single minute of Leeds’ title-winning Championship campaign last season after previous loan spells with Newport County and Peterborough United.

He has just two first-team appearances under his belt for Brighton.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been tipped to sell one senior star to part-fund four new signings.
