Diogo Jota and Andre Onana react to Diogo Dalot’s passionate message

Diogo Dalot had a positive message for fans after Portugal beat Spain in the Nations League.

The right-back endured a frustrating campaign at Man United during a season to forget, with the club finishing 15th in the Premier League and missing out on European football entirely.

Dalot came under heavy criticism from fans and pundits for inconsistent performances and ended the season largely used as a rotational player. Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu were both preferred at wing-back positions in key fixtures under Ruben Amorim.

Earlier in the season, Dalot reached the milestone of 200 appearances for Man United, but it remains uncertain whether he’ll continue to add to that total as Amorim pushes forward with his squad rebuild.

For now, however, the defender appeared in good spirits after Portugal’s win, reflecting positively on international duty amid club-level uncertainty.

Portugal lift Nations League after penalty shootout win over Spain

Players are currently on international duty, and Portugal lifted the Nations League title for the second time after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain.

Dalot was an unused substitute in the final, with Roberto Martinez opting for Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes in his line-up. Still, the United defender remained upbeat, sharing a celebratory Instagram post.

He wrote: “You never forget the first kiss. Very happy for my first trophy for Portugal.”

Dalot’s post was well-received, with United teammates Andre Onana and the departing Christian Eriksen among those to like it. Portuguese internationals, including Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and Manchester City’s Ruben Dias, also showed their appreciation.

While Onana engaged on social media in response to Dalot’s post, his own future at Man United remains uncertain.

Football Insider revealed Onana is one of six players Man United could offload this summer in a bid to raise funds following a disappointing campaign.

After United failed to qualify for European football for the first time in a decade, financial pressures have mounted, with player sales expected to help balance the books.

Onana faced criticism from Man United fans throughout the season for inconsistent performances, and there have been repeated calls for him to be sold. Reports suggest clubs from Saudi Arabia have already expressed interest in the Cameroon international.

If Onana does depart, United will need to move quickly to secure a replacement between the sticks, but no advanced steps have yet been taken in that direction.
