58-year-old would be a disaster: How odds shift changes Rangers manager chase

Alex McLeish 11/10

Rangers

There seems to be two camps when it comes to McLeish: those who remember the first-half of his last spell in charge and those who remember everything that came after it.

Few managers who win a treble will find themselves so poorly-regarded by a wide section of the fanbase but the last 18 months under McLeish last time round are the thing of nightmares.

The club’s longest winless run; longest run without a win or a goal against Celtic; Hamed Namouchi; playing Dado Prso as a winger to fit Stevie Thompson in the side or playing Zurab Khizanishvili as a central midfielder there was so much wrong about McLeish’s first spell in charge it’s difficult to see how he can revive Rangers from their current slump.

If Rangers do decide to go with McLeish, it leaves serious questions of a board who are quickly running out of goodwill from supporters.
