Divock Origi: Pundit ‘surprised’ by West Ham after journalist’s offer update

Kevin Phillips fears West Ham are set to miss a trick by not signing Divock Origi in the summer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Sunderland and England striker said he was “surprised” that the Hammers did not sign the 26-year-old in January.

Origi has struggled for game time this season and has fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Luis Diaz.

A recruitment source told Football Insider (19 March) that the centre-forward has made it clear that he wants to leave at the end of the season.

According to Fabrizio Romano (21 March), Origi is “more than tempted” by a contract proposal from Italian giants AC Milan.

When asked by Football Insider if Premier League clubs would regret not signing Origi, Phillips “I think West Ham have possibly missed a trick there.

“There must have been a reason for them not going for him in January though. They will have done their homework on him. I am surprised nobody has made an offer but there has to be a reason.

“In my eyes, he’d be well suited to West Ham who clearly need another striker. Perhaps the player doesn’t want to go there.

“It is clear that he will move on this summer. He has been a good servant to the football club but the times has come.”
