Djed Spence and Illan Meslier respond to Leeds fans’ dig at Willy Gnonto

Willy Gnonto responded to a dig from Leeds United fans after a light-hearted message on social media.

Leeds wrapped up their season in style, clinching the Championship title with 100 points and an impressive 95 goals scored.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has pledged his support for Daniel Farke despite recent speculation over the manager’s future.

One player who worked his way back into the squad was Willy Gnonto, whose future has been under constant scrutiny following a limited role earlier in the campaign.

The winger had previously attempted to push for a move away in previous windows but the club remained firm, keeping hold of him despite his rotational status.

Before the final stretch of the season, Gnonto had started only 20 league matches. However, he forced his way back into the starting XI, starting five of the final seven games.

Now, the Italian forward has poked fun at the situation in a humorous post directed at fans following their title win.

The winger reacted to the news with a picture of him posing with the award but also tongue-in-cheek post on Instagram, sharing a picture of a banner that read “I not wanna play in the Championship” – a reference to a past fan dig after he expressed a desire to leave the club.

He captioned the post with the same phrase alongside a photo of himself in tears, poking fun at the saga.

Plenty of players responded to the post, with Djed Spence and Illan Meslier liking it and Mateo Joseph commenting: “Hahaha you are special mi hermano.”

Gnonto’s late-season form helped restore his relationship with the fans and lifted spirits at Elland Road after a turbulent year. He started 26 league games, scoring nine goals and providing six assists, helping Leeds return to the Premier League.

However, uncertainty still surrounds his future. Everton showed interest in Gnonto last summer and could revisit their pursuit now despite Leeds being back in the top flight.

Leeds pushing to sign Manor Solomon on a permanent deal

With Gnonto’s future unclear, Football Insider revealed that Leeds are working to secure the services of Manor Solomon permanently,

Farke is keen to keep the winger at the club following a productive campaign, but Leeds may face stiff competition as several Premier League clubs have also registered their interest.

Solomon has been a key figure in the side, contributing 10 goals and 12 assists in 39 Championship appearances. Securing a deal for him is expected to be one of the club’s top priorities in the coming weeks in a busy summer window.
